It recounts the real-life sagas of a yacht delivery captain ferrying boats from Florida to Colombia in the 1970s and 80s. This was a time when the Colombian drug cartels were establishing a "bridge" from Colombia to North America through the Caribbean Islands; setting up bases for the distribution of marijuana and narcotics in Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic and parts of the Bahamas. This widespread smuggling activity endangered boat traffic in certain areas of the Caribbean.
To protect those involved, the author's fictitious main character, Captain Bob Ventura, navigates you through a maze of bad weather, piracy, and drug smuggling by sea, that will keep you on the edge of your seat. It culminates in the adrenaline rush of navigating in a Caribbean hurricane.
About the author
Robert Ramon
Robert Ramon aka Captain Bob, was born in Havana, Cuba in 1953 and came to the States in 1960. After serving in the US Air Force during Vietnam, he Captained private yachts for 44 years on the Eastern Seaboard and all over the Caribbean. In his early days as a freelance delivery Captain during the 70s and 80s, his dangerous encounters with piracy, drug smuggling, and hurricanes prompted some of the exciting real-life adventures that he shares with us in his Captain for Hire series.
